Monomoy Regional School District receives highest accountability rating of any PK-12 school district on Cape Cod
According to data recently released by the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education, Monomoy Regional School District has the highest rating of any PK-12 district on Cape Cod, based on the state’s accountability system.
The DESE accountability system measures school and district performance, helps schools improve the performance of all students, and helps communities and the state decide how to allocate resources. Indicators that provide information about school performance include: student achievement on MCAS ELA and math; student progress and growth over a one-year period; progress towards English proficiency for English learners; and chronic absenteeism.
With DESE reporting the data for the 2018-2019 school year, Monomoy is a clear leader among school districts in the region. In addition to Monomoy Regional School District recording the highest accountability rating of any PK-12 school district on the Cape, Monomoy Regional Middle School has the highest accountability rating of the 12 Cape Cod middle schools, for the second year in a row. Monomoy Regional High School has the 6th highest accountability rating of the 11 Cape high schools, Harwich Elementary is tied for the 5th highest accountability rating of the 23 rated Cape elementary schools, and Chatham Elementary can be ranked based on accountability rating 15th of 24 rated Cape elementary schools.
“Monomoy’s highly qualified and hardworking teaching staff are the clear drivers behind the success of our students and of our schools,” says Dr. Scott Carpenter, Superintendent of Monomoy Regional School District. “Our district also has a focus on the whole child, targeted and differentiated supports, strong family and community support, innovative programs, visionary administrators, and motivated students -- all of which contribute to the success of Monomoy schools.”
Information is provided by the state on each school’s performance against improvement targets and how it is doing compared to other schools across the state. The accountability system features an increased focus on raising the performance of each school’s lowest performing students.
On those measures, Monomoy Regional School District has earned the highest ranking among Cape Cod PK-12 districts on its accountability measures, with an accountability percentile of 70%. Other Cape districts’ accountability percentiles range from 52% to 68%.
With an accountability percentile of 74%, Monomoy Regional Middle School is again at the top among Cape Cod middle schools. Other Cape middle schools’ accountability percentiles range from 40% to 58%. In 2018, Monomoy Middle was also the top-ranked middle school on the Cape according to the state’s data.
“Our staff is extraordinarily dedicated and talented,” says Monomoy Middle School Principal Mark Wilson, “and they take the time to get to know each child as an individual before they tailor their instruction to address each child’s unique strengths and needs. That approach allows each student at Monomoy to achieve impressive growth.”
