The NEED Project has announced that the 2019 recipient of the Youth Energy Leadership Award is Aidan Kotoski of Monomoy Regional High School.
The Youth Energy Leadership Award was created by NEED’s Board of Directors to recognize students who go above and beyond in their pursuit of energy knowledge and the teaching of others. This prestigious award is designed to honor students demonstrating effective leadership skills and energy knowledge throughout their association with NEED.
NEED congratulates Aidan Kotoski of Monomoy Regional High School in West Harwich, Massachusetts on receiving the 2019 Youth Energy Leadership Award. This award includes a $1,500 scholarship to be used for post-high school educational plans. This fall, Aidan plans to major in environmental policy and law at the University of Rhode Island.
Aidan shares how NEED impacted his life and helped him become a leader, “Kids teaching kids has really spoken to me. It is so amazing to think that I am the kid teaching the kid who was once just like me - unaware of what energy conservation and efficiency was. I hope to continue educating kids on energy and be an inspiration for a better tomorrow.”
His teacher, Elizabeth Hoff, describes Aidan as someone who is not only a leader, but someone who helps others become leaders. He inspired a recycling program in his freshman year at Monomoy Regional High School and ever since has continued to teach others about energy efficiency through both student and teacher energy-related activities and engagement.
Aidan has served on the NEED Youth Staff the past few years bringing his many talents to the Youth Energy Conference & Awards program. Aidan’s skills as a leader and his knowledge in STEM and energy make him an important part of the team. Each year, NEED invites a few students to join us around the country for several science conferences. Aidan always joins the team at the Massachusetts Association of Science Teachers Conference to help lead NEED energy sessions in the hands-on workshops being offered.
