Monomoy science teacher Nancy Gifford named 2019 WGBH Ambassador

Monomoy Regional Middle School science teacher Nancy Gifford has been named a 2019 WGBH Educator Ambassador.

The WGBH Educator Ambassadors are a group of 16 innovative Massachusetts teachers who act as a sounding board for WGBH Education initiatives including PBS LearningMedia, which creates free digital learning resources for over 1.6 million teachers around the United States. The educators were selected for their expertise and commitment to education in the state.

WGBH started the Educator Ambassador program in 2018 in partnership with its sister station WGBY to foster a dialogue with teachers in the state. The WGBH Education department and Ambassadors work together to develop and disseminate educational resources for the PK-12 audience. The teachers also advise WGBH and WGBY on a variety of education-related topics and help to build awareness of the stations’ education work across the Commonwealth.

Gifford, a second-year WGBH Educator Ambassador, teaches 7th grade science and middle school robotics at Monomoy Regional Middle School. She was named Massachusetts Science Educator of the Year for 2018 by the Massachusetts Association of Science Teachers. Gifford received a Master’s of Science in Early Childhood Education from Wheelock College, is a Chemical Education Foundation Certified Essential Elements Trainer, and was the 2016 PBS Digital Innovator for Massachusetts.
