Monomoy Schools to offer Parent University series on developing self-esteem in children
March 13, 2023 -- As part of its ongoing Parent University series, which supports parents and caregivers with information and education on a variety of youth issues, Monomoy Regional School District will hold a two-part session on self-esteem. Led by Charles Gruszka, a former educator, counselor, and school administrator, these sessions focus on the steps parents, caregivers, and educators can take to ensure that young people feel supported and cared for.
Part 1 of the series, Developing Self-Esteem in Children, will be held Wednesday, March 22, at 6 p.m., and Part 2, Effective Discipline for Preserving Self-Esteem, will be held Wednesday, March 29, at 6 p.m. Both sessions will be held in the Monomoy Regional High School Library.
“Today, more than ever, it is critical for their mental health, future success, and lifelong happiness to ensure that young people feel worthwhile, have emotional security, and experience freedom from anxiety,” said Gruszka. “Emotional security in children is the key to keeping the channels open for their learning and growth to maximum degree. The behaviors that either enhance or tear away at the self-esteem of children should be a critical part of the knowledge base of every parent, caregiver, or teacher.”
Charles Gruszka, a Harwich resident, holds a B.A. from The College of the Holy Cross in Psychology. After completing training in the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve, he obtained M.A. and C.A.G.S. degrees from Assumption College in Psychology and Guidance, with a concentration in school counseling. He has taught special education students with behavioral and emotional special needs, and served as a Guidance Counselor and Principal, all within the Wachusett Regional School District in Central Massachusetts. Gruszka was a recipient of the MA School Counselors Association annual "Counselor of the Year" Award, and he is the parent of two adult daughters and four grandchildren.
For those unable to attend, this session will be recorded. For more information and to find the recording following the event, visit https://www.monomoy.edu/Page/5118.
