Monomoy Regional School Committee member Terry Russell honored with state award

Moomoy Regional School Committee member Terry RussellOctober 8, 2021 -- Each year, the Massachusetts Association of School Committees (MASC) honors school committee members from across the state for their hard work and commitment by naming them to the All-State School Committee. This year, representing MASC’s District VII, Monomoy Regional School Committee member Terry Russell has been selected to receive this recognition and has been awarded MASC’s Division VII All-State School Committee honor.

According to MASC, this award recognizes Russell’s contributions to the students of the Monomoy Regional School District through his years of service on the school committee, as well as through the many activities in which he has participated as an advocate for children. Russell has long been a member of the Finance and Negotiations subcommittees, served on the district’s Building Committee throughout the construction of the new high school, and previously served as School Committee Chair.

“Terry serves as a mentor for many School Committee members, offering historical knowledge and a steady hand in moments of critical decision. He’s a great listener and a thoughtful colleague - and a good partner when it comes to advancing necessary changes, whether it’s equity in the way we serve our student population or equity in the financial funding we receive from our two towns,” said School Committee member and former Chair Tina Games, who nominated Russell for the award.

Due to ongoing concerns about COVID safety, MASC will not be presenting this award during its Annual Joint Conference, as it traditionally has done. Russell will be presented with the award by MASC in person at a later date, as appropriate and in keeping with safety guidelines. The Monomoy Regional School Committee honored Russell for this award at its October 7, 2021, meeting.

“Terry Russell has been an integral part of the Monomoy Regional School Committee since its inception,” said Monomoy Superintendent Scott Carpenter. “Terry’s years of experience as a school administrator on the Cape, understanding of our community, and true devotion to the needs of students have created lasting positive contributions to our schools. We are pleased that MASC has recognized and honored Terry’s efforts and dedication.”

Russell has been a member of the Monomoy Regional School Committee since 2011. He is a resident of Harwich and is a retired educator, having served as a classroom teacher, coach, curriculum coordinator, assistant principal, and principal.
