Monomoy Regional School Committee to host second Community Forum on elementary schools

April 12, 2021 -- The Monomoy Regional School Committee will hold its second Community Forum focusing on the district’s elementary schools on May 6, 2021, at 6:30 p.m., via Zoom. The School Committee is investigating potential solutions to the concerns over declining enrollment at Chatham Elementary School, which presents both academic and social concerns for students and teachers, and which has created growing cost inequities between the towns of Chatham and Harwich. The session will focus on the question: What is the best configuration of Monomoy’s elementary schools for student learning? Options discussed to date include: maintaining the current status quo; creating lower and upper elementaries; redistricting some Harwich students to Chatham Elementary to stabilize enrollment; having the towns run separate elementaries; and all students K-4 learning together in one building.

The School Committee invites parents and caregivers, residents, and educators to attend this Community Forum to learn more about the issues from administrators and principals, and to share their thoughts on possible changes. The forum will be held Thursday, May 6, 2021, at 6:30 p.m. at http://bit.ly/MayElemForum.
