• Harwich Elementary School Summer Reading 2018

We’re kicking off the summer with a joint sign-up between the Brooks Free Library Summer Reading Program and the Town of Harwich Recreation Department on June 21! Join us at the Community Center for hot dogs and outdoor games starting at 5 p.m. The Mad Science Rocket Show will begin at 6 p.m. The entire event is free, no registration is required.

    Who can participate?

All students attending Harwich Elementary in grades Pre-K to Grade 4. You do not have to live in Harwich or have a library card. This is a free program!

What do we have to do?

Read! For every 2½ hours your child reads, they earn a prize and a paperback book from Brooks Free Library. The Harwich PTO will award prizes and certificates to the top readers in each grade level in September. Listening to audio books, reading ebooks, or being read to also count towards reading minutes.

When does the summer reading program start?

June 21st is the summer reading kickoff party at the Harwich Community Center for the summer reading program. After that day, children may sign up for summer reading either in person at Brooks Free Library or online at www.brooksfreelibrary.org. The program runs through the end of summer vacation. The last day to pick up prizes from Brooks Free Library is September 1.

    How do we participate?

Sign up at Brooks Free Library or on their website. Log your child’s reading time either online or using the special summer reading bookmarks available at Brooks Free Library.

    Why should my child participate?

Well, reading is fun! It is a great family activity. Reading 20 minutes a day will prevent the loss of reading skills that can occur over the summer break. And by reading each day your child will quickly achieve 2½ hours of reading time and earn a prize from Brooks Free Library. Set a goal for your child; for example, if you completed 2½ hours of reading time each week of vacation, your child could earn 10 prizes and 10 books!

The summer reading program for Harwich Elementary is jointly sponsored by the Friends of Brooks Free Library and the Harwich PTO.
