Monomoy school district and educators agree to new contract
The Monomoy Regional School Committee unanimously approved a new three-year contract with the Monomoy Regional Education Association at its meeting on Thursday, June 13, 2024.
The School Committee approved the contract after less than a year of negotiations. The MREA voted to ratify the contract on June 3, 2024.
Under the new contract, teacher and staff salaries will increase 3 percent this academic year, 3.25 percent next year, and 3.25 percent the following year.
“It was important to ensure that our educators’ compensation was on par with the region, and the salary increases in this contract will do that,” said Monomoy Superintendent Scott Carpenter. “In addition, our community is an increasingly expensive one to live in, and we want to do what we can to keep the amazing teachers and staff that we have here.”
The superintendent noted the competitive regional market for teachers and staff, and highlighted the district’s commitment to attracting and retaining high-quality staff.
The contract also incorporates an additional day of professional development for educators.
“We are pleased to have come to an agreement that supports our educators and reflects their value, while continuing the great work being done in our schools, all to achieve the shared goal of providing our students with the best possible education,” said Monomoy School Committee Chair Betty Gray.
The new contract will go into effect on July 1, 2024, and be in place through June 30, 2027.
