Monomoy Regional School District receives state grant for Innovation Career Pathways

Monomoy Regional School District was recently awarded a $65,000 grant from the Commonwealth of Massachusetts to expand Innovation Career Pathways in its middle school and high school, giving students access to hands-on learning experiences in high-demand fields. Innovation Career Pathways connect student learning to industry sectors important to the state and local economy, and guide students toward relevant post-secondary education and training options. Pathways are designed to equitably prepare all students for life after graduation by eliminating barriers to student participation and success in academic and work-based learning, and begin with investigation and skill building in middle school, continuing through high school.

“The Innovation Career Pathways program will provide additional support and resources so that our students will be even better prepared for college and career,” said Monomoy Superintendent Robin A. Millen, Ed.D. “The ability to offer focused classwork and hands-on experiences will open doors for our students while also helping to bolster our local economy. We are honored to be among the state’s recipients for this grant funding and look forward to launching the program this year.”
 
At Monomoy, the initial Innovation Career Pathways program will focus on Business and Finance. The MRSD team worked closely with local businesses and organizations, educators, and students to identify the industry sector. The team is now designing curriculum and selecting high-quality curriculum resources, researching industry-recognized credentials that align with the chosen sectors, enhancing partnerships with MassHire to support career readiness and work-based opportunities, connecting pathways to the district’s MyCAP program and Portrait of a Graduate competencies, providing professional development for educators, and identifying staffing needs.

“We are committed to making sure young people across Massachusetts have access to strong college and career pathways that open doors to opportunity,” said Governor Maura Healey. “Our administration will keep investing in Innovation Career Pathways that empower students to discover their passions and build a strong, equitable economy for Massachusetts.”
