Monomoy Regional School District awarded $95K grant to support reading instruction

The Healey-Driscoll Administration is awarding $9.3 million in Partnership for Reading Success - Massachusetts (PRISM) II grants to ensure Massachusetts preschool programs, school districts, educators, and students have access to high-quality, evidence-based reading instruction. As part of this program, Monomoy Regional School District has been awarded $95,100 to help strengthen early literacy instruction through curriculum and materials selection, educator professional development, and focused coaching.

“The research is undeniable that early literacy can set the stage for lifelong success in learning, and we welcome this support from the state to provide our students with even more opportunities to grow their reading and writing skills,” said Robin Millen, Ed.D., Monomoy’s Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum, Instruction, and Assessment. “We look forward to using these additional resources offered by the PRISM grant to extend and expand our ability to ensure that every student is well prepared to reach their full potential.”

This grant provides expert guidance from a Leadership Coach, and together with the team from Monomoy, the funding will be used to conduct an early literacy strengths/needs assessment; develop an early literacy vision beyond the schools and into the community; and form and deepen a collaborative partnership with community-based preschool providers. This funding also allows Monomoy to establish a multi-year plan for providing professional development for educators in the Harwich and Chatham Elementary School programs, as well as for our community preschool educators, satisfying an explicit goal in Monomoy's Strategic Plan.

“The entire Monomoy team is focused on ensuring that every student is well-positioned for success, and the awarding of this grant will give us additional capacity to support our educators and our community partners as they undertake this critical work,” noted Monomoy Superintendent Scott Carpenter, Ed.D.

Monomoy was one of only 29 schools across the state to be awarded PRISM grant funding.
