Monomoy honored as Massachusetts School Wellness Champion

Monomoy Regional School District was honored by the state as a School Wellness Champion after completing the Massachusetts School Wellness Coaching Program. The MSWCP pairs schools and districts with a wellness coach who facilitates meetings and provides technical assistance throughout the school year with respect to local wellness policy assessment, action planning, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation, with an emphasis on enhancing compliance with the USDA Final Rule for Local School Wellness Policy Implementation under the Healthy, Hunger-Free Kids Act of 2010.

During the recognition ceremony at the 2026 Healthy Kids, Healthy Programs Summit, a special banner was gifted to the district. Additionally a team from Monomoy attended the breakout sessions “Catching On: Why Seafood Belongs on the Tray” and “Recruit and Retain: Strengthening Ties With the Cafeteria, Community, and Classrooms.” Monomoy Regional High School student Davion Dawkins represented Monomoy as a student member of the district’s Wellness Committee, along with Monomoy Middle School Health teacher Bambi Thompson.

The 2026 Healthy Kids, Healthy Programs Summit celebrated the innovation, leadership, and community‐driven spirit shaping school nutrition today. Over two days, this conference explored how intentional leadership, culinary creativity, and whole‐school wellness come together to strengthen the school nutrition experience for every student, and was sponsored by the Office for Food and Nutrition Programs at the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education and The John C. Stalker Institute of Food and Nutrition.
