Community input wanted on Monomoy Regional Middle School siding options

Monomoy Regional School District is planning for much-needed renovations at Monomoy Regional Middle School. Phase 1 of the project involves replacing the building’s siding and windows, so that moisture will not continue to enter the building and create further issues. By replacing the current cedar shingle siding with long-lasting synthetic siding, a wonderfully functional building will be preserved for years to come.

The Monomoy Middle School Building Committee, made up of local residents, parents and caregivers, and construction experts, have been meeting regularly with the architects for this project. That team has narrowed down potential siding options and now wants to get feedback from our community. To allow for the most realistic representation of the possible styles, materials, and colors, large panels have been placed at Monomoy Regional Middle School and at Harwich Elementary School, where you can view and touch the various samples. There, you’ll also find a poster with a QR code to scan, which will take you to a survey where you can provide your preferences. The Building Committee will then take this feedback and incorporate it with the cost of materials, installation, and upkeep to make a final decision. The survey can also be found at the link here

Interested community members are encouraged to stop by Monomoy Regional Middle School (425 Crowell Road, Chatham), where the panels are placed along the front of the building to the left of the school’s main entrance, or Harwich Elementary School (263 South St., Harwich), where the panels are placed to the left of the school’s front entrance. To minimize traffic concerns, visitors should avoid arrival and dismissal times in the mornings and afternoons.

In addition, to provide community members with opportunities to learn more about this project and have their questions answered, Monomoy will hold information sessions in both Chatham and Harwich in the coming weeks. There will be a community information session in Harwich on April 22, 2025, from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. at the Harwich Community Center, and in Chatham on April 29, 2025, from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Chatham Community Center.

Voters will have the opportunity to approve this project at Harwich Town Meeting on May 5 and Harwich Town Elections on May 20, and at Chatham Town Meeting on May 10.
