Parent/Caregiver and Student Chromebook Expectations

Using a Chromebook is a huge and exciting responsibility. However, there are a lot of potential dangers online so we have created a suggested outline of points parents and students need to discuss to ensure the safety of students. Please read the following expectations and make sure your child is being safe online. And as parents/caregivers, please be open and supportive as your child starts to learn and explore on their Chromebook. School administration can update and/or edit Chromebook policies as the initiative moves forward and new ideas/issues arise.

As a student:

  • I will protect my reputation and privacy.
  • I will keep my password private.
  • I will not give out my personal information (such as my address) to someone I don’t know.
  • I will not put myself at risk by posting or sending inappropriate or revealing photos.
  • I will not post anything that I would not want my parents, teachers, college admissions officers, or future employers to see.
  • I agree to only use the Internet responsibly and not be hurtful to anyone.
  • I agree not to use technology to cheat.
  • I agree to report content that is potentially inappropriate.
  • I will be mindful of how much media I consume and will balance it with other activities in my life.
  • I will confide in an adult if anything potentially dangerous happens online.
  • I know that not everything I read or see is true, and I will think about whether a source or person is credible.
  • I agree to think about and understand anything before I download or fill out any survey.
  • I will help my parents/caregivers understand why media is so important to me.
  • I will show my parents/caregivers how to use the tools that I like if they are interested in learning.
  • I will recognize that my safety and wellbeing is more important to my parents/caregivers than anything else.
  • I will be the ONLY user of my school issued Chromebook
  • I will not attempt to bypass the Securly system that is in place to protect me while online.
  • I will not attempt to install unauthorized applications or programs on my school issued Chromebook.

In exchange, my parents/caregivers agree to:

  • Provide supervision and limits around Chromebook use at home.
  • Let me make some mistakes and help me learn from them.
  • Before saying “no,” talk with me about what worries them and why.
  • Respect my privacy and talk to me if they have concerns.

By signing this agreement I understand all of the above points and expectations of the Chromebook care and use. ALSO, please visit the Monomoy Regional School District website and read the district Acceptable Use Policy - File: IJNDC.

As of 01/10/2023 parents/caregivers must agree to this document on Aspen during registration or re-registration before a Chromebook can be issued. Chromebooks will not be issued if agreement is not signed.
