Care & Use Guide
Monomoy Regional School District Chromebook Care & Use Guide
A Resource for Students and Parents/Caregivers
Vision
The vision of the Monomoy Regional School District is to provide a learning environment which empowers all individuals in the school community to meet the challenge of change in an increasingly complex world. We believe technology will enhance the quality and scope of teaching and learning. Our goal is to ensure all educators and students will receive equitable access to technology. This technology can be integrated across curricula for meaningful instruction through the expanded use of digital media, assistive technologies and universally designed instruction. This environment will provide countless opportunities to fully integrate technology in the education process.
Why are we moving to a 1:1 initiative?
Digital learning technologies can enable Monomoy students to grasp concepts more quickly and fully, to connect theory and application more adeptly, and to engage in learning more readily. Having an environment that provides Monomoy’s grade K-12 students with 1:1 digital learning devices can assist teachers with an increase in instructional blended learning techniques and facilitating the widespread sharing of knowledge. Digital technologies will afford Monomoy staff and students new and better ways to create possibilities beyond the limits of our current imagination. Monomoy students and educators will benefit from the digital learning tools by enhancing personalization of learning, increasing accessibility, offering blended learning experiences, and having access to open source resources.
Personalization: Digital learning offers an unprecedented ability to provide educational experiences that are tailor-made for each student. Teachers can also track their students’ individual progress, identify specific areas of focus for each student with digital data, and present solutions that address their specific needs. Students thrive most in situations where educational experience has been customized to their unique needs; digital learning will provide teachers with the tools and opportunity to offer individualized learning programs.
Accessibility: By embracing digital devices and connected learning, Monomoy classrooms not only connect to individual classes, but also to all classes and schools to share insights and boost learning, experience, and communications skills.
Blended Learning: Blended learning opportunities incorporate both face-to-face and online learning opportunities. The degree to which online learning takes place, and the way it is integrated into the curriculum, can vary across Monomoy schools. The strategy of blending online learning with school-based instruction is often utilized to accommodate students’ diverse learning styles and to enable them to work before or after school in ways that are not possible with full-time conventional classroom instruction. Online learning has the potential to improve educational productivity by accelerating the rate of learning, taking advantage of learning time outside of school hours, reducing the cost of instructional materials, and better utilizing teacher time.

Guides
Log In:
Your child should use their school-provided Google account to log in. Enter their email address (e.g., jdoe35@monomoy.edu) and password.
Connect to Wifi at Home
The wireless network you connect to must be open (no password) or one that you know how to connect to with a password. The connection is routed through the MRSD Securly filter to ensure that student access to the internet adheres to district policy.
Students should use these steps to establish an internet connection outside of the MRSD network for the first time.
- Login to your Chromebook.
- Connect your Chromebook to wi-fi by clicking the icon in the bottom right corner of your screen and selecting the network you wish to join. (Follow these steps if you need additional assistance.)
- Launch the Chrome browser in the bottom left corner of the screen. (close any open windows before doing this)
- The MRSD filter will load as a blue web page that says “Mobile Login.” Enter your MRSD-assigned student Email and password to authenticate for away-from-MRSD internet access to important instructional content.
IMPORTANT TO KNOW!
- Your computer should remember this network the next time you need to connect but you will ALWAYS need to go through the filter sign-in page (step 4) to successfully connect to Internet resources (including MRSD Google Docs) at home.
- If you are connected to wi-fi but do not see items you expect to see in Google Drive, you may need to follow steps 3-4 above then refresh the Google Drive screen.
Update Chrome OS
Ensure the Chromebook is up to date by clicking on the time at the bottom right, selecting the settings gear, and then "About Chrome OS." Click "Check for updates."
