MRMS Renovation Project Updates

Budget

The total budget for this project is $11,507,030

Funding

• The district will be borrowing the funds to pay for this project. 
• The borrowing was approved by the town of Chatham and town of Harwich in spring 2025. 

Project Partners

• Owners' Project Manager: ECC Corporation
• Designer: Raymond Design Associates
• General Contractors: Pearl Construction

The goal is to perform these much-needed repairs as expeditiously as possible without impacting the educational experience of our students and staff. The project will be completed in sections in order to minimize interruptions to learning. 

Timeline

These dates are our best estimates and are subject to change.

• March 17: Equipment and materials start to be delivered 
• March 30: Construction begins on Phase 1. 
• May 15: Planned start date of Phase 2
• June 18: Planned start date of Phase 3 
• Phase 4 will begin during the summer after the completion of Phase 3. 
• August 21: Planned substantial completion date

Phasing Approach

• During the school year, classrooms and offices will be temporarily relocated within the building while their area is under construction.
• The bulk of the work will be done over the summer with anticipated substantial completion prior to the 2026/2027 school year start.

Site Logistics

• Parking areas will be cordoned off for contractor parking, as well as for materials and equipment.
• Bus parking will be moved to Chatham Elementary School for the duration of the project.
• No anticipated changes to traffic flow or parent pickup. 
• Construction will take up some parking spots for material set down and staff parking.  

What’s next

• The next major phase of this project is replacing the roof, which is necessary to protect the work that will be done to repair the siding and windows. 
• That project will come before Town Meeting in both towns in May 2026.
