Monomoy Regional Middle School Restoration Project
Monomoy Regional School District is embarking on a much-needed restoration project at Monomoy Middle School. This project will be done in two phases: Phase 1 will include replacement of the school's siding and windows, and Phase 2 will include replacement of the school's roof. The current siding was installed nearly 30 years ago, and in some areas the flashing around windows and the water barrier beneath the cedar shingles were either absent or poorly installed, which has heightened the need for the siding project to prevent further water intrusion. With the exception of some areas of the roof that were replaced in 2018 after significant storm damage, the majority of the middle school roof was last replaced in 1997. Some sections of the roof date back as far as 34 years, far past its useful lifespan. Replacement of the middle school roof is necessary in order to prevent water permeating the exterior envelope and damaging the building’s interior. MRSD was accepted into the MSBA Accelerated Repair Project program for partial reimbursement of the roofing project. While the roofing project is eligible for MSBA reimbursement, the siding project does not fall under the scope of MSBA projects eligible for reimbursement.
