Concession Stand Building Project
Monomoy Regional High School Concession Stand Building Project
The Monomoy Concession Stand Building Project was a true community effort. The bulk of the work was made possible through donations of time, labor, and materials by a variety of parents, tradespeople, and community members. The final costs for the completion of the Concession Stand were funded at 2018 Town Meeting. Many thank to the community and voters for supporting this important project from the initial stages through fruition!
The Concession Stand will allow those attending events at the MRHS field to enjoy food and drink, and at the same time will provide an important fundraising opportunity for school groups. In addition, the bathroom facilities are welcoming and accessible, thus offering an improved experience for attendees. As a community resource, the field complex is now even more appealing for local groups and teams to use when it is not is use by our own Sharks.
Thank you!
October 2018 Update
This facility benefits the entire Monomoy community, whether you have or cheer for an athlete in our town youth sports programs or in a Monomoy athletic program. Your field hockey, soccer, lacrosse, track & field, and football athlete benefits from this addition of a concession stand and restroom facility at our stadium field, and our spectators now have a much-improved game experience. The project included a kitchenette with sinks and refrigeration, a covered food service area, a six-stall women’s restroom, a four-stall men’s restroom, plus a single-stall unisex family bathroom. There is also a storage area to house some athletic equipment.
The construction of the concession stand/restroom facility was intended to be a “community build,” funded by businesses and families within our community and constructed by volunteers. Financial support from our community partners and donations of labor to construct the building largely helped bring this project to fruition. Volunteer laborers and financial benefactors will be recognized on a plaque to be affixed to the completed building, based on the level of their contribution:
Great White – contribution of $5,000 or more OR volunteering 40 or more hours of labor
Mako – contribution of $1000 OR volunteering 20 hours of labor
Hammerhead – contribution of $500 OR volunteering 10 hours of labor
Blue – contributions of $250 and over
Donations to further improve the concession stand can still be made to the Monomoy All-Sports Booster Club. Donations are tax-deductible. Proceeds from concessions go to the Monomoy Booster Club, which supports all of our district’s student athletes.
Through the original Monomoy Regional High School construction project, a full slab with plumbing and electrical hook-ups was laid in place for the future construction of a concession stand, including restrooms. Mount Vernon Group Architects generously donated their time and expertise to develop complete and stamped plans for the build. Businesses within our community and Monomoy families raised the funds for materials and many parents provided volunteer labor to construct the shell of the concession stand building atop the slab.
The largest portion of the concession stand project, in terms of both space and budget, was the creation of handicapped-accessible bathrooms. In order to bring “modern plumbing” to the masses and bid farewell to the port-a-potties of the past five years, final completion of the building was built into the school district’s FY19 budget presentations. Thanks to the support of our communities and the voters at our annual Town Meetings, $103,860 dollars within the Monomoy Regional School District’s FY19 budget was allocated and approved to make the building fully functional as a concession stand, handicapped-accessible bathroom facility, and storage area for stadium athletic equipment. The concession stand became fully functional in time for the October 12, 2018 Homecoming football game.
Thank you to our supporters!
The Monomoy Regional School Committee would like to thank our founding community contributors: The Cooperative Bank of Cape Cod and the Harwich Cranberry Festival. SKANSKA (the Owner's Project Manager for the construction of our high school) also had a significant donation to the concession stand by funding the roll-down shutters for the food service area.
