8th grade transition information
  • To help both students and parents successfully transition to high school, the MRHS team has developed a number of activities to ensure that everyone is informed about routines, procedures, systems, and expectations for incoming 8th-graders. 

2019 Schedule of Events

  • Student Step-Up Day
    Monday, June 10, 9:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m., Monomoy Regional High School

    MRMS 7th grade students will spend a half-day at the High School getting to know the lay of the land. Guided school tours by Peer Leadership students and 8th grade students will provide a flavor of the high school experience. Students will hear from administration, the athletic director, school counselors, and teachers, as well as participate in fun activities and enjoy lunch in our cafeteria. Additionally, students will learn about the various extracurricular activities offered at MRHS.

    During this time, 7th grade students will also give speeches and vote on their class officer positions for 2019-2020.

    Parent Step-Up Evening
    Monday, June 10, 5:30 p.m.-6:30 p.m., MRHS Library

    An informational session for parents and guardians designed to answer any questions regarding your student’s transition to high school. School tours will also be available.  

    Schedules, Jawsome, and other school-related matters will be discussed informally with Grade 8 School Counselor, Alison Burton.

    New Student Orientation and Chromebook Distribution
    Tuesday, August 27, 10:00 a.m. Blue Team/11:00 a.m. Silver Team, MRHS (meet in the 8th grade wing)

    MRHS 8th grade students and any students new to the district are encouraged to attend orientation at MRHS on Tuesday, August 27, to get ready for the first day of the new school year on September 3.

    TIME: 10:00 a.m. - Blue Team (Teachers - Creedon, Dickson, Manning, Walsh) OR 11:00 a.m. - Silver Team  (Teachers - Barnes, Groves, Matheson, Picariello)

    If you are a new Monomoy student in grades 9-12 OR are unable to attend at your scheduled time, please email Betsy Casey at bcasey@monomoy.edu to schedule an alternate time.

    Student orientation includes:

    • A school tour following their schedule of classes
    • Answers to any questions they may have about MRHS and the new school year
    • Access to their lockers
    • Distribution of important paperwork
    • After attending a brief mandatory technology orientation, students will receive their Chromebooks. Note: Students must have the Family Student Chromebook Agreement signed by a parent/guardian in order to receive their Chromebook. Download the form here: https://www.monomoy.edu/Page/3352.

    Students can also speak to front office staff, administrators, and school counselors, and ask questions regarding clubs, activities, sports, and everything else that Monomoy has to offer.

    A panel of 9th grade students will share their tips and insights about the 8th grade experience.

    Schedules, Jawsome, and other school-related matters will be discussed informally with Grade 8 School Counselor, Alison Burton.

    Note: If you attended the Parent Step-Up Evening in June, this will be very similar to that event.

    Town Hall Grade Level Meetings
    First week of September, 12:07 p.m.–12:37 p.m., MRHS Auditorium

    By grade level, all students meet with school administrators and counselors during Jawsome to review MRHS policies and expectations.

    Open House/Curriculum Night, September date TBD, 6:30 p.m.-8:30 p.m., MRHS 

    A school-wide event for students in all grades, in which parents/guardians will follow their student’s schedule and meet teachers, administrators, and counselors.
