HES Summer Reading Program
Summer Reading Message 2024
Dear Families,
Thank you for sharing your children with me this year. Please help your children read for pleasure this summer and continue to develop their reading skills. Two great ways to find books are your local public library and SORA, a reading app for students.
Public libraries provide free access to books, fun events, and summer reading programs. Brooks Free Library is one of the public libraries in Harwich and is open evenings and Saturdays. Check their website or stop by for more information.
Sora is a collection of thousands of ebooks and audiobooks, and it’s accessible 24/7. It can help students of all ages read more and improve comprehension. Struggling or reluctant readers, learning-challenged, second language learners, and gifted readers can all benefit from this service.
- Enrich vocabulary and improve comprehension and pronunciation
- Introduce students to books above their reading level
- Teach critical listening
- Help busy kids find time to read
- Incentivize reading with fun avatars and achievements
- Allow easy access to the public library’s collection, too! (In the Sora menu select: +Add a library)
How can my child access Sora?
- Download the free Sora app from the Apple App story, Google Play Store or visit https://soraapp.com/library/masslibma
- Type in Monomoy Regional School District, click on sign in.
- Type your child’s school Google ID and password
- Enjoy anytime, anywhere on a computer, tablet, or smartphone.
Where can I find more information?

Kindest regards,

HES Summer Reading
Harwich Elementary School students are encouraged to participate in the Brooks Free Library Summer Reading program! For every 2.5 hours a student reads (or is read to) during the summer, they can earn a free book and a small prize! Students can complete the 2.5 hours as many or as few times as they'd like. They can register at the library or at https://brooksfreelibrary.beanstack.org/reader365.
