All workshops are centered on MRSD curriculum cycles and strategic goals. MRSD PD days, All Cape PD Day, single-session events, multiple sessions, facilitated by internal or external experts

All Year Workshops

Data-driven Instructional Decision-Making and Literacy Lesson Design Workshops (Elem-MS)
Description: This series will be hosted by Hill for Literacy Consultants. Consultants will provide learning opportunities to educators to apply current, science of reading research in their classrooms based on individual student's literacy assessment data.
Who: All K-5 Educators, Administrators, Reading Specialists, Special Educators and Related Service Providers and EL educators will engage in this professional learning series in 2024-2025
When/Where: 5x/year within school day/PLCs, 2-hours each
PDPs: 10PDPs provided by MRSD
Literacy Instructional Coaching Workshops (Elem-MS)
Description: This series will be hosted by Hill for Literacy Consultants. Consultants will provide professional development to literacy experts to create and deliver tier I-III literacy strategies and instructional support to other educators within the district. The focus will be to create a science of reading embedded professional development model within MRSD.
Who: All K-4 Reading Specialists, 5-7 Literacy Representatives (1-2 reps), g. 5-12 ELA/Humanities Director, Elementary Administrators, Middle School Administrators
When/Where: 10x/year within school day, 1-hour each
PDPs: 10PDPs provided by MRSD
Science of Reading Implementation Workshops (Elem-MS)
Description: This series will be hosted by Hill for Literacy Consultants. Consultants will provide professional development to instructional leaders to support science of reading instruction and integration of primary (ARC) and supplemental (UFLI) resources within the literacy learning design.
Who: District Literacy Leadership Team (K-7), interested Instructional Leaders (K-7), interested reading specialists, elementary administrators, middle school administrators, g. 5-12 ELA/Humanities Director
When/Where: 5x/year, 2-hours each outside of school day
PDPs: 10PDPs provided by MRSD, participants will be paid hourly curriculum wage per contract
Guided Math Workshop Series (Elem-MS)
Description: This series will be hosted by Dr. Allison Mello. Dr. Mellow will provide learning opportunities for educators to build their repertoire of math workshop strategies. Her goal: helping you and your students find math strategies that are EFFICIENT, EFFECTIVE and EASY.
Who: All prek-4 educators, math specialists, special educators, and elementary administrators. Interested middle school educators, math specialists, and administrators.
When/Where: 3x/year, within the school day, scheduled to be determined
Note: Certificate of Attendance will be provided for total number of hours attended, these hours can be bundled by educators for PDP collection (see #4 DESE PDP information sheet)
Investigating Civics Workshops (MS)

Carnegie Mathematics Workshops (HS)
Description: Ongoing professional development in evidence-based instructional strategies and learning design. Sustaining the implementation of the Carnegie Math program and leveraging technologies to deepen the learning will also be a focus.
Who: All grades 8-10 mathematics educators employing the Carnegie Math program, g. 5-12 STEM/Mathematics Director, HS administrators
When/Where: 4x/year, within the school day

Open Access Professional Learning (OAPL) for Literacy in PreK-12
Mass Literacy is a statewide effort to empower educators with the evidence-based practices for literacy that all students need. Evidence-based instruction, provided within schools and classrooms that are culturally responsive and sustaining, will put our students on a path toward literacy for life. To advance equitable and evidence-based literacy practices across the state, DESE is offering professional development in literacy topics to Massachusetts educators through our OAPL program to support educators across grades Pre-K–12.
OAPL courses often fill up quickly. For those not able to secure a spot in an OAPL course, we encourage educators to continue to learn about evidence-based literacy by taking advantage of ongoing and upcoming opportunities such as the following: Mass Literacy Online Overview Course.

WIDA Self-Paced Workshops
WIDA professional development provides great information and strategies to support multilingual learners in Massachusetts public schools, and WIDA PDPs satisfy educator licensure renewal requirements. These DESE-sponsored courses are available at no cost to participants and are perfect for teams of teachers seeking impactful collaboration to support students' access to rigorous course content.
WIDA Self-Paced workshops can be accessed directly by Massachusetts educators with a WIDA Secure Portal account. Facilitated WIDA workshops are prioritized for high-needs districts. Registration for all other MA educators will be available 3–4 weeks before each workshop begins.
