Mentoring Program Overview

  • Monomoy Lighthouse Leader

The Monomoy Regional School District Lighthouse Leader Mentoring Program supports our students by creating opportunities for one-on-one connections with caring adults from our community.

Research has shown that mentoring can provide young people with improved academic performance, increased self-esteem, and dramatic growth of interpersonal skills.

Mentoring also allows community members to gain true involvement in our schools in a meaningful and impactful way.

Mentors will be asked to commit to one hour a week for the duration of a school year.

The Community Engagement Coordinator will solicit and review mentor applicants and provide the initial mandatory training. Additional training and support opportunities will be offered to mentors.

The Monomoy Lighthouse Leader program will draw upon information and recommendations from teachers, counselors, parents, and administrators to develop a participant list and specific goals for each mentoring relationship.

There will be an informational launch session offered so that the parents and guardians of students participating in the program can learn about the program.

An end-of-year survey will gain information about program satisfaction from both the student and mentor. The success of meeting the goals will be reviewed at the culmination of each mentoring relationship.

If mentors are interested in continuing a mentoring relationship with a particular student from year to year, we will try to accommodate that continuity of experience.
