Monomoy Integrated Preschool
The Monomoy Integrated Preschool Program is a preschool program for children ages 3-4 who have been identified in need of specially designed instruction due to a disability. The program meets all current federal and state guidelines and mandates, and implements a developmentally appropriate curriculum aligned with the Preschool Guidelines used by the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education and the National Association for the Education of Young Children criteria for preschool learning.
Our integrated preschool classrooms support children with identified special needs alongside more typically developing students whom we call community friends. Our community friends help to model age-appropriate social, play, language and learning skills. We believe that every child in our school is a valued, practicing member of the community and that all children benefit when they learn, work, and play together.
- Students with disabilities who may be eligible to participate in our program are identified through a screening process by our educators. Children are referred to the program by parent inquiry, physician recommendation, child care provider recommendation, and more.
- The number of community friends that can be enrolled is dependent on a variety of factors and is not guaranteed. COVID-19 restrictions meant that MRSD was not able to enroll any preschool community friends for the 2020-2021 school year. It is hoped that restrictions will ease for the 2021-2022 school year and that some community friends can be enrolled.
- To enroll in the integrated preschool program for the 2021-2022 school year, children must be 3 years old on or before Sept. 1, 2021; be able to provide a birth certificate and copy of required immunizations; and provide proof of residence in Chatham or Harwich.
The Monomoy Integrated Preschool Program Strives to maximize the achievement of all of our students. We provide our students with high-quality social, language, and early academic experiences, which address each child’s individual needs in an emotionally and physically safe environment. We follow developmentally appropriate best practices for young children of all abilities by providing a standards-based curriculum.
Schedule/Location: There are morning and afternoon sessions of our preschool program, and each session is 2.5 hours in duration. Classrooms may be located at Harwich Elementary School and/or Chatham Elementary School, depending on enrollment and other logistical factors.
Tuition: Students with identified special needs attend the integrated preschool at no cost. Tuition is $150 per month for community friends. There is a $75 deposit that will be applied to the first month’s tuition. Tuition is subject to a sliding scale.
Screenings and Registration: Monomoy Regional School District will hold its Preschool Screenings for children who will be age 3 or 4 during the 2021-2022 school year on Wednesday and Thursday, March 17 and 18, 2021. The purpose of the screening is to review a child's development and to assist in the identification of those children who should be referred for an evaluation to determine eligibility for special education services. It will address fine motor, gross motor, speech and language, social/emotional development, and cognitive development. The screening process identifies the strengths of each child observed and recommendations are made for enrollment based on those strengths. The screenings are by appointment only. Please call 508-430-7216 to schedule a screening appointment.
Once families have received a letter of acceptance into the program, they must complete a registration form to enroll their child in the program. The registration process includes showing an official birth certificate, demonstrating proof of residency, physician report verifying immunizations are up to date, registration forms, language survey, and contact information.
We are committed to helping parents of young children in the Monomoy Regional School District understand the special education process, including screening, evaluation, eligibility determination, and Individualized Education Programming.
