Wellness Vision Statement
The purpose of the Monomoy Regional School Wellness Department is to enhance the well-being of the school community by creating a culture that integrates and balances the dimensions of wellness: social, spiritual, environmental, intellectual, occupational, emotional, and physical health. Our programs promote self-responsibility and a life-long commitment to wellness.
Transfer Goals:
Students will be able to independently use their learning to:
- Take personal responsibility for making healthy life-long choices.
- Develop and maintain positive relationships through team building and sportsmanship.
- Appreciate and enjoy life-long recreational fitness activities.
- Understand the impact of wellness on academics.

Physical
What does this dimension of our model mean?
Through this dimension of the curriculum, Monomoy students learn about keeping themselves physically fit, healthy, and safe. Physical wellness equips students to deal with the challenges of everyday life, prevent and manage illnesses, and do the things they want and need to do. In order to maintain good physical wellness, they will make informed decisions about their nutrition, safety, and well-being – now and into the future. Finally, this dimension of the curriculum alerts students to the support and resources that they need to maintain their physical well-being and quality of life.
Why is this dimension important?
Physical wellness helps to:
- improve cognitive functioning, manage weight, and reduce the risk of disease
- promote strength, cardiovascular health, and nutrition
- provide opportunities for socialization, teamwork, and conflict-resolution skills
- develop self-esteem, self-control, and grit

Social
What does this dimension of our model mean?
Through this dimension of the curriculum, students explore how and why we form relationships with others and explore relationship ethics. The importance of being able to form safe, positive, and nurturing relationships with others is emphasized. These relationships enhance connections while also respecting individual identity, culture, and values. The quality of one’s interaction with others and one’s social environment plays a critical role in personal well-being. Monomoy students are expected to act with kindness, empathy, and integrity to strengthen social connections. This dimension of wellness highlights the importance of one’s contribution to the community as well as a sense of belonging.

Social wellness helps to:
- embrace diversity
- form meaningful relationships and connections with peers and adults
- engage in responsible digital citizenship
- develop communication and conflict-resolution skills
- understand the relationship between choices and outcomes (social impact)

Spiritual
What does this dimension of our model mean?
The spiritual wellness dimension refers to the beliefs, values, and ethics that guide us through life and inform our actions. It asks us to look inward and explore our purpose and meaning. Spiritual wellness fosters a deep appreciation of life. Monomoy students will be able to explore and demonstrate their spiritual wellness awareness through actions such as volunteering, practicing self-reflection, and creating a community filled with love and inclusivity.

Spiritual wellness helps to:
- develop a sense of purpose in life
- promote a reflective mindset
- advocate for what you believe in and why
- practice forgiveness and compassion for others
- foster integrity and ethical principles

Environmental
What does this dimension of our model mean?
The environmental dimension encompasses a respectful relationship with the earth and its resources. It consists of maintaining a way of life that maximizes harmony with the earth and minimizes harm to the environment, with the understanding that all beings depend upon it for survival. This dimension helps students to develop a sense of responsibility for personal and shared surroundings. Monomoy students also have the opportunity to be involved in socially responsible activities to care for and protect the environment.

Environmental wellness helps to:
- understand how human actions impact the well-being of the earth and its inhabitants
- connect to a sense of social responsibility and environmental sustainability
- establish a sense of belonging in the world
- develop an appreciation for the beauty and uniqueness of Cape Cod

Intellectual
What does this dimension of our model mean?
This dimension of wellness develops creativity, problem-solving skills, and the ability to explore and learn. Students expand their knowledge and skills through a variety of activities, applied both in and out of the classroom, by pursuing personal interests as well as required curriculum. As lifelong learners, Monomoy students will be able to maintain curiosity, respond to challenges, and are motivated to take healthy risks in their learning and overall development.

Intellectual wellness helps to:
- encourage learning and lifelong pursuit of new knowledge
- support executive functioning skills such as time management and organization
- exercise critical thinking and decision-making skills
- integrate new ideas and beliefs that are different from your own

What does this dimension of our model mean?
Occupational wellness promotes decision-making that actively develops unique gifts, skills and talents in order to favorably impact career and vocational opportunities. Students will be able to investigate their desired interests while engaging in education and activities that are meaningful and rewarding. This dimension of wellness enables Monomoy students to develop functional, transferable skills that are sustainable in the 21st century.

Occupational wellness helps to:
- foster self-awareness and self-understanding as students prepare for their futures
- identify resources and opportunities for career development and advancement
- support vocational and professional growth and change
- prioritize a healthy work-life balance

Emotional
What does each dimension of our model mean?
This dimension of wellness recognizes awareness and acceptance of one’s feelings. Through this dimension of the curriculum, students are supported to build skills that empower them to succeed when faced with adversity. A student who is emotionally well will feel positive and enthusiastic about life. Monomoy students learn to apply healthy coping strategies, develop grit to overcome setbacks, embrace a growth mindset, take responsibility for themselves, and ask for help when needed.

- recognize strengths and limitations with a well-grounded sense of confidence and purpose
